Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a fun and safe one. Last night turned out to be great as we were swept up in a last minute gathering. Those type of parties and I don’t always see eye to eye but its usually due to some poor decision making on my part and last night was no exception. As we were scrambling to get ready I went out to the garage to grab some beer and found the cupboard was bare. Then when I looked for a midnight bottle of champagne it turned out we had no less than ten collected over the years. I should have stomped on the idea the minute that it floated to the top of my mind but I declared last night to be Champagne Only and I never wavered. A double extra large mistake that I am paying for as I type.

Not sure if it was the mixing of brands and types or the sheer volume consumed but this morning finds me with my skull expanding and contracting well past all recommended safety tolerances. When my skull hits the expansive downbeat I have to cup my hand over my one eye lest it just fall out of the enlarged socket. The person who invented this evil sparkling liquid should be punched but if I did he would probably remove his little white glove from his delicate hand and slap me for my gluttony. I’m also tearing up a bit from the pain. awesome.

Around 1:00am I hit the wall. I couldn’t chew down another ounce of the bubbly and like the race car driver in the same situation I was walking around stunned. For everyone’s safety I chose to go sit quietly on the couch by my self for a few minutes and not participate in the Left Right Center game. I even started some SuperDouche New Year tweet but either thought better of it or couldn’t figure out how to post. Getting up this morning and remembering it being about someone specific caused a momentary guilty panic but all is well.

And now as I lie here on my side in a pillow fort that both shades my good eye and props this iPad up I am trying to figure out how to feel better before the rest of my family starts roaming around the house. Fully showered, didn’t work. Took the recycling and garbage out to the garage, stood in the cold for fifteen minutes with my eyes closed, didn’t work. Right now I’m waiting for the painkillers and Diet Coke to finish their turn but things don’t look good. Poor choice to start the new year or just one last flash of 2011 brilliance?
